How to cut ceramics, porcelain and natural stone
Preparation
We recommend that any cutting is carried out outdoors to minimise the effect of any dust created. Appropriate PPE should always be used including a mask, gloves and safety glasses.
How do I Cut Ceramic Panels?
For a clean cut we recommend using a table top or bench mounted wet-saw fitted with a diamond tipped blade suitable for ceramics.
It’s possible to cut ceramic panels using handheld power tools with a suitable diamond blade, but the cut can be uneven and chipping can occur.
How do I Cut Porcelain Panels?
For a clean cut we recommend using a table top or bench mounted wet-saw fitted with a diamond tipped blade suitable for porcelain.
It’s possible to cut porcelain panels using handheld power tools fitted with a diamond tipped blade suitable for porcelain. To reduce chipping we would recommend the use of water to stop the blade or porcelain getting too hot.
How do I Cut Natural Stone Panels?
For a clean cut we recommend using a table top or bench mounted wet-saw fitted with a diamond tipped blade suitable for natural stone.
It’s possible to cut natural stone using an angle grinder with a suitable diamond blade, but the cut can be uneven if care is not taken.
When using power tools you should follow the manufacturers instructions and wear appropriate PPE including a mask, gloves and safety glasses.
